Features include individually linked, free-rolling brass tracks with working track-tensioners; fully replicated engine, a No.8 hydraulic blade; a No.8 hinge-type hydraulically adjustable ripper; a No.176 hydraulic control box; and a 46A Power Shift transmission tower. Control levers and pedals, a perferated grill, and hydraulic lines all add to the realism of this model. A finish coat of period “Hiway Yellow” paint and correct vintage markings finish this truly legendary model. The Machine: With a 235 horsepower Caterpillar diesel engine coupled to a power shift transmission and an operating weight of nearly 24 tons, the Caterpillar D8H 46A is a true legend. Advertised by Caterpillar as having “the solid feel of direct drive with the flexibility of a torque converter” this machine lived up to its promises. A hydraulic blade and ripper were standard equipment, but options such as winches and side booms made the tractor as adaptable as the operators needed. The fact that these machines can still be found at work in mines, forests and fields some 50 years after they debuted is testimony to both their durability and their popularity.
